Acupuncture is a system of healthcare aimed at naturally promoting health and alleviating sickness through the stimulation of very specific anatomical points, known as acupuncture points, throughout the body.
These points generally lie along meridians, or energy channels, that run through and along the surface of the body. It is believed that pain and sickness occur when these channels become blocked, and that these blockages can be removed through the stimulation of acupuncture points. In modern day acupuncture, this stimulation is achieved by superficially inserting sterile, super thin, disposable needles into these points. This may be done with or without the addition of gentle needle manipulation, heat, or electricity to further stimulate the points and break up the obstructions.
Dr. Byrne most often performs acupuncture for patients suffering from: breeched pregnancy, fertility, depression, anxiety, hormone balance, digestive disturbances, PMS, headaches/migraines, and joint pain.
Phoenician Wellness Clinic offers numerous musculoskeletal care techniques that are brought to you, in the comfort of your own home. These services include chiropractic, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, cold laser therapy and cupping.
Chiropractic manipulation is used to release restricted joints in both the spine and the extremities. Joints often become restricted due to poor posture, improper biomechanics, and/or injury. A joint that is restricted leads to excessive motion in nearby joints. This excessive motion leads to degeneration of the joint. Therefore, restoring movement and function in all joints is a preventative procedure for future degeneration and dysfunction.
Dr. Byrne uses manipulation and mobilizations as taught by the Motion Palpation Institute, the leader in biomechanically sound, evidence-based chiropractic manipulation techniques. For a low-velocity technique that does not provide the audible release (cracking/popping sound), Dr. Byrne has other options for her patients, as well.
Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization is an advanced manual technique where the therapist can effectively address soft tissue dysfunctions with the assistance of a contoured instrument. The purpose of the instruments is to focus force through a small area with less friction than using the thumb or fingers.
The goal of treatment is to stimulate an inflammatory healing response by increasing blood flow and stimulating collagen production. Ultimately, reducing overall treatment time and allowing for faster recovery.
Phoenician Wellness Clinic uses RockTape kinesiology tape. The purpose of kinesiology taping is to reinforce posture corrections, support injured tissue, and to improve sports performance. The stretch within RockTape itself is used to promote healing and to reinforce proper muscle activation.
Cupping therapy is an ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine in which a glass or plastic suction cup is placed on the skin. It is used to mobilize and stimulate the flow of blood in order to promote healing. The cups can remain stationary or be gently moved across the skin. This causes the superficial layers to be slightly drawn into the cup.
